Top 8 Tips for Packing Your Kitchen 600 385 Fox Removals

The kitchen is one of the more time consuming and difficult areas of the house to pack thanks to the high volume of items and fragile glasses and crockery. So, where do you start? Luckily, there are some simple ways to make packing your kitchen relatively pain-free. Today, we share some of our favourite tips for packing the kitchen to prepare for your house removal.

1. Declutter as you go

There’s no better time to declutter than when you move house and this is definitely true for the kitchen. Rather than throwing everything in a box, get rid of cracked plates, mismatched cups and never-used appliances.

2. Pack rarely used items

While you need to keep your kitchen staples on hand right up to moving day, pack rarely used items as early as possible. This includes wine glasses, appliances, cookbooks and platters.

3. Have smaller boxes on hand

Smaller boxes are better when it comes to packing your kitchen items. Not only does it make the boxes easier to carry, it also means that your kitchen items have less room to
move around and become damaged.

4. Protect your dinnerware

Plates and bowls are easily chipped in the moving process so take care to use plenty of packing material. Put bubble wrap on the bottom of the box and then place packing paper
between each plate or bowl.

5. Use rubber bands for cutlery

Cutlery can easily become damaged if it’s left to rattle around. Make life easier by using rubber bands to secure your cutlery. This also makes unpacking easier as your cutlery is secured together and ready for the drawer.

6. Put paper inside glasses

Prevent your glasses from damage by not only protecting the outside, but also the inside. Put a piece of scrunched up packing paper inside each glass and consider used wine boxes
to transport wine glasses – they’re the perfect size!

7. Keep an essentials box

You don’t want to arrive at your new house and have to dig through every kitchen box just so you can have dinner. Keep an essentials box aside which has items like plates, glasses, toaster and a small amount of cutlery. When you’re exhausted after the move, you’ll be happy you did it!

8. Be specific with labelling

Don’t label every box with ‘kitchen’. This makes unpacking a nightmare when you have to open every box to find what you need. Instead, be specific with the contents of each box so you can move items straight into their cupboard or drawer at the other end.
