Considering your four-legged friends
Moving house is stressful for humans, but can also be anxiety-inducing for our pets. Our best tips for making your dog or cat feel at home:
- Bring them to the property before your move day to let them have a sniff of the perimeter of the property. The more time that they spend near your new home, the more familiar they will become.
- Ensure that if they are with you on the move day, that they are safe and out of harm’s way. As your removalists will be entering and exiting your property, your door will likely be opening and closing frequently, if not constantly open. Providing your animal with a safe space is vital. Bring their bed, favourite blanket, food and water and put them in a room in the house that has limited noise and disruption. Your children can even comfort the animals in the room for some extra love and attention.
- Give your dog a tour of the house when the removalists are gone. Allow him/her to explore and get to know the new areas that they will frequent. Take the pet back out the front on the leash to sniff the area that you have previously introduced it to.
